Hopefully most of you got a chance to watch Louis Theroux’s most recent documentary last night, ‘Louis Theroux: Savile’.

A sequel to his first movie ‘When Louis Met Jimmy’, this time round Louis tried to make sense of the guilt that he felt towards developing “something of a friendship” with the man who was discovered to be one of the most prolific paedophiles in the country.
For those of you who didn’t catch it, you can go and check it out on BBC iPlayer now. I managed to catch the documentary last night and while it was shocking to see how Jimmy fooled everyone into believing that he was a savoury character, it was his deliberate perverted behaviour that was truly disturbing. He seemed to almost show off to those surrounding him, Louis included, that he could get away with his vile acts due to his power and fame.
One moment in particular that really stood out was the moment he was seen groping a young girl with her mum next to them. Despite the fact he was only steps away from their table and the cameraman managed to catch the entire incident on film, Louis is none the wiser:

What I can’t understand from this is why the footage was never used or even questioned after the first documentary was finalised. For it to be filmed concludes that someone, probably even Louis, saw this occurrence and either brushed it under the carpet or, like so many people did before his death, just put it down to Savile’s “unusual” character.
When you look back now, it’s absurd that everyone involved in his life worked so hard to cover up his secrets. You only need to look at old photos of Savile to realise the truth.
