It’s been said a million times before but teachers don’t get nearly enough credit for the jobs they do. I mean yeah they get 3 months off a year but they’re also on a relatively low income, have to do a whole bunch of work out of school hours, and get constantly sh@t on by students.
These days it seems they’re also at risk of being physically brutalised by their students too, as was the case at Matanzas High School in Florida earlier this year when 17-year-old Brendan Depa KO’d teacher Joan Naydich for confiscating his Nintendo Switch:
JUST IN: Florida teen who beat a teacher unconscious for taking away his Nintendo has pleaded guilty to the felony charge against him.
Brendan Depa faces up to 30 years in prison for the brutal beating. His sentence will be determined in January.

Depa, who is an 6ft 6, 270lbs monster of a lad, has been charged with first-degree aggravated battery and will be tried as an adult seeing as he turned 18 while in custody. The Daily Mail says the maximum penalty for the charge is up to 30 years, however the minimum recommended prison sentence is just short of three years.
Interestingly, Depa has some mitigating circumstances: he’s been diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Intermittent Explosive Disorder, Mood Dysregulation Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Anxiety. His therapist reported that he was the emotional maturity of a 4 to 6-year-old. So I guess the last thing you want to do to a kid like that is take away his Nintendo Switch in front of the whole class.
His victim couldn’t care less, however. According to Flagler Live, Naydich has “shown no interest in mitigating what penalties Depa might face,” which is fair enough considering she was beaten unconscious by the lad and will probably be traumatised for life over it. Depa will be sentenced in January 2024.
