I’m not sure if it’s fair to say that Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ movie from last year was universally loved – although you could say it almost universally sparked a renaissance of ‘Something In The Way’ memes – but it definitely painted a picture of a dirtier, grosser and downright more sinister version of Gotham City than we had ever seen before.

Reeves is continuing ‘The Batman’ storyline in an eight part HBO series based around Colin Farrell’s iteration of ‘The Penguin’ in that movie and they’ve just dropped the first trailer and it looks like it’s going to be continuing the themes of the movie and also be a lot of fun. Take a look at it below and see what you think:

Yeah I suppose that isn’t giving too much away, but it’s safe to say that The Penguin is attempting to fill the power vacuum left by the death of gangster kingpin Carmine in the movie but coming up against all the problems that you might expect him to come across when trying to slither your way up that ladder. So just a lot of shooting guns, torturing people, mouthing off at everyone, getting annoyed at the cops followed by hanging around at swanky clubs and smoking cigars.

A Batman version of ‘The Sopranos’ then I suppose. Yeah, I guess I’m in, although we won’t be seeing it until 2024 sadly. I wonder what gloomy 90s song they’ll constantly overplay in this one?
