Filipino Teenager Just Invented Footwear That Charges Your Phone While You Walk

As great as my iPhone 5 is, it really pisses me off when it runs out of battery almost every other time I go out for more than a few hours because obviously it means I don’t have a phone and I can’t contact anyone and if I need to figure out how to do something then I won’t be able to do that either. It’s a real ball ache, and one that can only really be remedied by carrying a charger with me everywhere I go which isn’t exactly ideal either.

This is why I’m so stoked to hear about this fifteen year old kid from the Philippines called Angelo Casimiro who has managed to design a pair of shoes that charges up your phone while you walk. Yeah, that’s right – how good does that sound?

Angelo explains that it works by creating energy to charge your phone through an insole generator that is made out of two pairs of piezoe-electric discs, which produce energy when the crystal bends inwards. Unfortunately though, it doesn’t look like it will be that effective any time soon as initial tests have revealed that the shoes only produced enough of a charge for a phone to run for ten minutes after a two hour basketball session.

You’ve gotta remember that the kid is only 15 though and has already developed this technology that nobody else in the world has (or more likely Apple developed it ages ago but refused to release it to us so they can make more money somehow) done yet, and that if he keeps working on it he’ll probably figure it out before he’s 18. iPhones might have a better battery life by then of course, but I’m sure technology like this is going to be very useful for at least something in the future.
