A new gameshow in the Netherlands has come under fire for asking male contestants to judge whether a woman is fat or pregnant.

The show, ‘Neem Je Zwemspullen Mee’ (‘Bring Your Bathing Suit’) aired its first episode last Sunday. Women walk out onto a rotating podium in the middle of the studio where the men contemplate whether they have a baby growing inside them, or whether they’re just fat.
Another segment asks male contestants to guess if a woman’s breasts are real or fake.
Naturally, there’s now an online petition trying to get the show off the air. It reads:
KRO-NCRV decided that the budget of public broadcasting can be best spent to be downgraded to a game involving women as pieces of meat… The program is thus suggesting that it is okay to shamelessly to assess a person’s body.
However, the production company claim that this sort of game actually rids the world of prejudices:
Through these satirical settings, we laugh off all forms of prejudices.
Love the production company’s explanation that by making fun of fat people, we “laugh off all forms of prejudices.” I can see where they’re coming from but at the same time, using racist language won’t exactly rid the world of racism, will it?
Oh wait, Holland’s already tried that approach too.
