The whole idea of spiking someone’s drink or food with drugs is kinda funny when you mention it, but actually really kinda sneaky and malicious when you actually put it into practice – if people want to put stuff in their bodies then they should be a allowed to make that choice of their own free will, not because you think it’s lolz. Would not recommend.

Anyway, this is a story about how it might seem funny to do that but actually isn’t. We’re over in Australia for this one where a 50 year old woman named Sheila was recounting the tale to radio station 3AW. Here’s what she had to say:

Everyone was having a lovely time and cake was passed around at dessert with fruit and cream and some nice little chocolate chunks sprinkled over it.

It turns out the chocolate chunks contained marijuana.

The culprit assumed that the addition of a load of weed to the chocolate birthday cake would liven up the family birthday party.

The effect was not immediate which I now know is the case with edibles.

Within an hour I was experiencing throat swelling and dizziness, [and] within three hours myself and four other family members were hospitalised with overdose.

Apparently, I’m allergic to cannabis or whatever it was in that very high dose.

My parents in their 80s were also taken to hospital.

One was vomiting, the other had an extremely high heart rate.

We were all terrified because we didn’t know for some hours what was going on… People were passing out… [the hospital staff] would have been frustrated because we were all talking nonsense. Everyone who was at this event was calling one another and we didn’t really know we were high.

Eventually the prankster came clean and we all ended up OK, but it was an absolute nightmare for a minute there.

I mean it does kinda sound like they were being pretty lame about it all, but I guess when you don’t know you’ve been drugged and start acting like this then it is pretty worrying. If you’re some old timer without any experience with drugs then it’s probably even scarier and weirder, so I guess I’ll cut her a break.

Kinda interested which member of the family thought this was a good idea though and how old they were – surely you’ve gotta be a teenager to try something like that? Wonder how many weeks they’ve been grounded for after this one.
