5) West African Black Rhino

Officially the West African black rhino is considered “critically endangered” but it seems like that might be a little too enthusiastic. They were once widespread, but by the 1980’s there were only a few hundred left, and by 2000 just 10 individuals roamed the plains.
A more recent search of Cameroon – their last stronghold – found zero individuals. The search continues but hope is waning.
