3) Spix’s Macaw

Before you weep for the loss of such beauty, the good news is that there are still 71 of these guys in captivity, so their genes are alive and kicking. No Spix’s macaws have been seen in the wild since the year 2000 though.
The macaw lives in Argentina and its decline is thought to be due to hunting, trapping, deforestation and competition for space with Africanized “killer” bees. The last known female in the wild flew into a power line and died in 1990. Jeez. No luck at all.
