A conman who faked having a heart attack in over 20 restaurants to avoid paying the bill has finally been jailed, and is now having his sunburnt face blasted all over the internet as well as ending up behind bars in a Spanish prison.

50-year-old Aidas J, a Lithuanian who lives in Spain, had already been arrested several times pulling this stunt but was always let go because he only owed a small amount to each restaurant – ranging from €15 to €70 (£13-£60) for each meal.

Which makes you wonder why he didn’t just dine & dash each time? I mean, faking a heart attack just seems like way too big a production for such a small amount of money. He might as well have been buying top shelf liquor, expensive steaks, and buying everyone in the restaurant a round of drinks. At least go out with a bang instead of causing such a massive scene over a starter.

Speaking to The Sun, the manager of one restaurant named El Buen Comer described Aidas’s act as ‘very theatrical’: “He pretended to faint and slumped himself down on the floor. He lay down on the floor, acted as if his chest hurt and began to shake.”

Too funny. Especially as, based on the viral photo, he has the perfect heart attack face where he looks like he’s permanently seconds away from collapsing to the floor and dying on the spot. In the end though, the risk of his eat-for-free scheme wasn’t quite worth the reward, because the Spanish authorities had enough of his timewasting and he’s now been sentenced to ‘at least 22 days behind bars.’

Considering the amount of times he’s been caught doing it already and has only now faced a (tame) punishment, I don’t think we’ve heard the last of Aidas J. He might lay low for a little while until the internet stops laughing at him, but he won’t be able to resist forever. Watch this space.
