Big news on the Baby Reindeer front today as it was reported that Fiona Harvey is officially suing Netflix for $170,000,000 (£132,000,000), alleging defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, and violations of her right of publicity.

In the lawsuit itself (which you can read in full here), Fiona Harvey doesn’t deny stalking multiple people over the years, but there are multiple parts of Baby Reindeer which she states are categorically false, and as such have defamed her.

Here’s a rundown of everything from Baby Reindeer which Fiona Harvey insists never happened…

1. Fiona Harvey was a convicted stalker who served a 5-year prison sentence

This seems to be the one that’s really got her goat. In the show, the character of Martha Scott is depicted to have been a convicted stalker who served a five year prison sentence. It’s a core part of the show which is revealed at the end of the very first episode. She went on Piers Morgan’s show and denied it there as well, and actually seemed to be telling the truth?

In the lawsuit, Fiona Harvey’s lawyers claim they have a certificate proving that she has never received any sentence, caution, warning, or reprimand from the police. This also applies to the moment late on in the show in which Martha pleads guilty to stalking. Big if true…

2. Fiona Harvey sexually assaulted Richard Gadd

In one episode, Martha Scott sexually assaults Richard Gadd’s character in a canal towpath. In the lawsuit, Harvey’s lawyers said that this is an ‘outrageous claim’, claiming: “Harvey has never had any sexual encounter with Gadd. The claim that Harvey sexually assaulted Gadd is a lie.”

3. Fiona Harvey violently attacked Richard Gadd by smashing a glass on his head and gouging his eyes

In an episode toward the end of the series, Martha Scott loses the plot and viciously assaults Donny Dunn by smashing a glass over his head, before jumping on him and gouging his eyes. This comes after the character initially assaults Dunn’s girlfriend Teri.

Another fabrication, according to the lawsuit: “This is a lie. Harvey never smashed a glass bottle over Gadd’s head, gouged his eyes, or ever physically attacked him in any way”.

4. Fiona Harvey waited outside Richard Gadd’s house every day for up to 16 hours a day.

After Donny Dunn reports Martha to the police, she begins waiting outside his house at a bus stop every day, for up to ’16 hours a day’, which was probably one of the more terrifying details of the character’s stalking campaign. The lawsuit calls this a ‘psychotic lie’, claiming Fiona Harvey never waited outside Richard Gadd’s residence whatsoever. Not even once? Apparently not.

So, these are the four main areas of the show that Fiona Harvey and her lawsuit claim to be untrue – with Harvey’s lawyers also alleging that the ‘true story’ tag on Baby Reindeer defamed her. They say that, due to the success of the show, these defamations have been viewed more than ’50 million times worldwide’ and destroyed their client’s life, career and reputation.

In addition to this, the lawsuit claims that Netflix’s executive, Benjamin King, made a statement alleging that Harvey was a ‘convicted stalker’ in a committee meeting within the House of Commons. Welp, that’s not good, if it indeed turns out to be untrue.

Do Netflix or Richard Gadd have evidence to the contrary? I guess we’ll find out soon enough as Fiona Harvey seeks her $170,000,000 in damages. Wonder if she’d settle out of court for a mill? Probably.
