A 35-year-old man who trekked 23 MILES to stalk US Open champion Emma Raducanu has been handed a five-year restraining order, reports Sky News.

Amrit Magar, originally from Nepal, went to 19-year-old Raducanu’s house three times between November 1 and December 4, once decorating a tree in the front garden with Christmas lights and leaving a gift bag on her porch.

He also left a bouquet of flowers with a note that said ‘nothing to say but you deserve love’ and on another occasion, he drew a map to show the ’23 miles’ he had walked from his home. Who said romance was dead?

Magar was arrested after the British number one’s dad Ian was alerted via doorbell camera, and caught Magar stealing his shoes as a souvenir off the front porch.

Hilariously, Magar rocked up to court this morning feeling like an absolute superstar and posed for photos before heading into the court to learn his fate. Listen to all the journalists cracking up at him:

District Judge Sushil Kumar gave Magar, from Harrow, north-east London, a five-year restraining order and sentenced him to an 18-month community order. He’s also subject to an eight-week curfew between 9pm and 6am and will be monitored by an electronic tag.

Pretty awful that a young woman like Raducanu can do a remarkable thing and then have to worry about some creep twice her age becoming obsessed with her and believing they’re meant to be together. Just too bad the restraining order can’t be for life TBH. Is the idea of this guy following Raducanu around suddenly going to be less terrifying in 5 years? Well anyway, let’s hope he stays away from her for now and doesn’t misinterpret the whole restraining order thing as Raducanu playing hard to get.
