With three big name porn stars already dead in 2024 – Jesse Jane, Kagney Linn Karter and Sophia Leone – we all feared the worst when Emily Willis went into a coma following cardiac arrest last month. Well, the good news is that Emily is now showing positive signs of recovery.
The 25-year-old adult film star’s dad, Michael, told TMZ that while she remains in a vegetative state, there have been notable improvements – mainly, she’s now awake and able to track things with her eyes, smile, and even become emotional during conversations.
The bad news is that doctors aren’t anticipating any further improvement beyond that, and aren’t even too sure how Emily Willis ended up in this state in the first place.
Doctors have been unable to determine the root cause of what led to her cardiac arrest, especially since toxicology reports determined there were no drugs in her system. In fact, she was in rehab at the time, where she weighed just 80lbs (36kg!) when checking herself in. Even at 5’5, that is obviously a dangerously low weight and could suggest organ failure/cardiac arrest from malnourishment.
Emily’s family launched a GoFundMe to help cover her medical bills and other expenses. Her dad says they needed to do this as they’re unable to access Emily’s funds, which are currently locked and do not list her family as beneficiaries. It’s currently raised over $70k, so good to see people are helping out.
Goes without saying, it’s a relief to hear of Emily’s progress, but it sucks that doctors don’t expect much/any improvement beyond this. Could be that she’s confined to a vegetative state for the rest of her life, albeit aware of her surroundings and able to emote with her expressions. Who knows though – with modern medicine and so many people around to support her recovery, there could be a miracle on the cards.
It’s just a shame that this kind of support doesn’t seem to exist for adult film stars while they’re healthy and in the industry itself. We know it’s not an industry that attracts the most mentally stable people on the planet, but surely there’s more that can be done about the mental health crisis among adult film stars that leads them to drug abuse, alcohol abuse, body dysmorphia, and all the other problems they contend with. Three porn stars dead this year already, and a close call with Emily Willis too. How much more of a wake-up call do we need?
