You can just imagine Tom Cruise being absolutely disgusted by anyone who shows even the tiniest bit of weakness in any given situation. Sure enough, Emily Blunt claims he set her straight when she was feeling dispirited while working alongside him on The Edge of Tomorrow.

Blunt recalls how Cruise dished out some tough love when she complained that she was anxious about wearing an 85-pound costume during filming, telling the SmartLess podcast:

‘We had to wear these enormous suits, which I think would’ve been great if we had CGI’d them, but we wanted to do it in a tactile way.

When you hear the word ‘tactile,’ you think that sounds nice and cozy. There was nothing cozy about these suits. It was like 85 pounds. It was so heavy. The first time I put it on I started to cry, and [Cruise] didn’t know what to do.’

Blunt said Cruise “stared at her” as she got more panicked about donning the heavy suit:

‘I was like, ‘Tom, I’m not sure how I’m going to get through this shoot,’ and just started to cry,” she admitted. “I said, ‘I’m feeling a bit panicky about the whole shoot.’

He just stared at me for a long time, not knowing what to do, and he goes, ‘Come on, stop being such a p—y, OK?’

I’m not sure there’s many things more motivating in life than Tom Cruise telling you to ‘stop being a p*ssy’, but it certainly seemed to work out great in this case because The Edge of Tomorrow turned out to be a pretty sick film and Emily Blunt was awesome in it. It’s not like Blunt was complaining about this either; I think she’s genuinely grateful that he sort of broke the tension and got her focused on the job with his Blunt encouragement (pardon the pun). Sounds like solid life advice in general really.

Meanwhile, Thandie Newton had an altogether more terrifying experience when working with Tom Cruise. Are we sure the guy is even human?
