I think it’s probably fair to say that Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter hasn’t exactly gone as well as he thought it would because more people than ever now think that he’s a major dxckhead, and he’s not doing himself any favours by getting into petty confrontations like this on the social media platform.

The whole interaction started where this guy called Haraldur Þorleifsson/Halli – who is known as one of the most philanthropic and generally awesome people in his home country of Iceland – publicly questioned Musk as to whether he still had a job at Twitter, having been unable to contact the HR department for nine days. From there the situation got suitably bizarre after Musk waded in and the two of them decided to have it out on Twitter in front of the whole world to see:
But was he fired? No, you can’t be fired if you weren’t working in the first place!

My legs were the first to go. When I was 25 years old I started using a wheelchair.
It’s been 20 years since that happened.
In that time the rest of my body has been failing me too. I need help to get in and out of bed and use the toilet

My family is the best. I have two kids. I see them every day. I recommend that.
My wife is fantastic. Strong, kind, smart, amazing artist. Couldn’t be happier with her.

We worked for more or less every big tech company.
We grew fast and made money. I think that’s what you are referring to when you say independently wealthy?
That I independently made my money, as opposed to say, inherited an emerald mine.
— Halli (@iamharaldur) March 7, 2023
Financially it wasn’t the best decision. My company was making a lot of money and Twitter’s offer was lower than any smart valuation would say.
But like you I made a bet on Twitter having a lot more potential than it has had.
— Halli (@iamharaldur) March 7, 2023
Anyway, I digress, are you still reading? Or is the bathroom break over?
What was I saying? Ah yes, and then you bought the company and told employees you weren’t firing 75% of them. Which you then did.
— Halli (@iamharaldur) March 7, 2023
During my time at the new Twitter, or 2.0 as you called it, I talked to my manager every week and asked what I should focus on.
And then I proceeded to do those things. Every one of them.

And now finally to my fingers, which I know you have great concern for. Thank you for that btw.
I’ll tell you what I told them. I’m not able to do manual work (which in this case means typing or using a mouse) for extended periods of time without my hands starting to cramp.
— Halli (@iamharaldur) March 7, 2023
But as I told HR (I’m assuming that’s the confidential health information you are sharing) I can’t work as a hands on designer for the reasons outlined above.
I’m typing this on my phone btw. It’s easier for because I only need to use one finger.
— Halli (@iamharaldur) March 7, 2023
I hope that helps! Let me know if you are going to pay what you owe me?
I think you can afford it?
— Halli (@iamharaldur) March 7, 2023
He has a prominent, active Twitter account and is wealthy. The reason he confronted me in public was to get a big payout.
From what I’ve been told, he’s done almost no work for the past four months, middle-management or otherwise.

He has a prominent, active Twitter account and is wealthy. The reason he confronted me in public was to get a big payout.
From what I’ve been told, he’s done almost no work for the past four months, middle-management or otherwise.
Despite his claims on Twitter that he did work, it turns out he told HR that he couldn’t work because he couldn’t type, but was, over the same period, typing up a storm on Twitter.
Yet there are many people on Twitter defending him. This hurts my faith in humanity.
Well I don’t know who to side with there from what they’ve said, but Elon Musk always comes across like a major knob so I’m probably not going to believe much he’s saying here, whereas Halli has been voted person of the year in Iceland, so I kinda have to go with him on the background checks. There’s also a great punchline in the form of this tweet as well:
turns out the disabled Twitter employee who Elon publicly ridiculed for asking about the status of his employment sold his company to Twitter for ~$100 million, and the deal was structured in a way which requires payment for the entire deal upon his termination—whoops 🤣 pic.twitter.com/JxUVPZThtn

BREAKING: $TSLA stock is down billions of dollars today, as the result of concerns that Elon will have to dump more stock to pay the estimated *$100 million* he owes the disabled employee he fired & ridiculed on Twitter for having muscular dystrophy & asking employment status pic.twitter.com/Mwm3XCeGwD

Geez, who knows how this is going to play out? Hopefully in public once again!
For more of the same, check out Elon Musk’s dad saying that even he isn’t proud of his son. Ouch.
