The internet discourse is pretty much dominated by Elon Musk and how he’s completely screwing up Twitter after buying it a couple of weeks ago and now he’s hit another own goal after posting a picture of a Nazi soldier on the social media network.

In fairness to Musk, I think that he was trying to illustrate how much technology had developed since the Second World War by posting a picture of a soldier with three carrier pigeons and the caption ‘3 unread emails’. I’m hoping and it’s perfectly reasonable to assume that he probably didn’t realise that the soldier was actually a Nazi, although given all the anti semitic speech coming out of Kanye West’s mouth recently you can’t really be too certain can you?
Or maybe Musk is just using the picture to drive home how important the right to free speech is on the platform? Not really sure that’s the best way to illustrate that point though, are you?
Anyway, here’s the tweet and a few people getting really upset about it:

“Hey, let’s use the carrier pigeons of the German Wehrmacht from World War II to illustrate technology development in an awesome way?” “But isn’t there a better example, Elon? Right now, in the ongoing debate around development here on Twitter?” “No, Wehrmacht imagery is best.”

.@ElonMusk. This is a soldier of the 3rd Reich. This is a German soldier who swore an oath of allegiance and obedience to Adolph Hitler. This is a photo of a Nazi soldier. pic.twitter.com/iWaCPY9F7N

Why a Nazi German soldier? You couldn’t find another picture with birdies in a cage? https://t.co/IUNDUS3ZVx

#Musk tweeted a “meme” with a #Nazi #Wehrmacht soldier. Earlier this year he tweeted (then deleted) a picture of Adolf #Hitler as a meme. He has repeatedly posted Hitler-related tweets in the past. Think that’s accidental? A joke? A misunderstanding? I think not. #Antisemitism https://t.co/bnfsTr3mCk

So @elonmusk wakes up and says to himself, what’s a day without a good Nazi joke about my company? https://t.co/xxktSAlZWE

I think they’ve kinda got a point here and Musk probably is well read/learned enough to realise what he’s doing here. I would like to think that he isn’t, but when he ‘accidentally’ tweeted a picture of Adolf Hitler earlier this year as well you can’t be so sure.
So yeah surely he knows what he’s doing here? And it’s majorly weird that he seems like he’s actively trying to vaguely promote Nazism isn’t it? Just Elon Musk though enit.
For more of the same, check out when a drunk Neo-Nazi got a swastika tattooed on his testicles by his brother. So much wrong with that sentence.
