Mannan Mondal, aka India’s ‘Elephant Man’, has turned down an offer for surgery to remove his growths and repair his face because he relies of his appearance to make a living and has his daughter’s wedding to pay for.
Surgeons have offered to carry out the operation but Mondal rejected them in favour of funding 20-year-old Rasheeda’s big day.
“The money I earn while begging is barely enough to feed my family. But I have no other way to help my daughter. I have to continue like this. I have to think about feeding my family first.”
What a dude. Surely there’s some philanthropist out there who can afford to get Mondal’s face fixed AND pay for his daughter’s wedding in one swoop? Seems crazy that he’s been getting media coverage for so many years and still has to live like this, but turns out he feels he has no choice.
