This story has been floating around for a few weeks now and to be honest, I was just going to ignore it because people get so wound up about these topics. But it’s gotten so big now that we may well do a blog on it.

Basically, to summarise, Bud Light decided to make mega-viral transgender TikToker Dylan Mulvaney the face of their company in the name of ‘inclusivity.’ This resulted in an immediate backlash and 17% drop in sales for the brand, which led to the marketing executive who oversaw the whole thing taking a leave of absence. It was, quite predictably, a complete disaster that did not resonate with Bud Light drinkers at all.

Dylan Mulvaney has gained nearly 100,000 followers following Bud Light controversy

Mulvaney, who claims to be a woman, continues to receive insane amounts of stick over the whole thing, with people not only attacking the Bud Light campaign but also personally ripping into Mulvaney, calling her a weirdo and misgendering her and such. A video has now surfaced of Mulvaney claiming it should be illegal for people to refer to her as her biological sex:

Like, the articles written about me using ‘he’ pronouns and calling me a man over and over again, and I feel like that should be illegal. I don’t know, that’s just bad journalism.

People accuse the transgender activist of mocking women in videos where she prances around like a little girl. Here are some examples of the Dylan Mulvaney content people are taking issue with:

Have to admit, that is quite weird and creepy behaviour from an adult human being, no matter what their biology is or what they identify as. What blows my mind the most though is how Dylan Mulvaney is so popular on TikTok and Instagram and the like? I guess that would explain why brands are so keen to work with her, but for Bud Light to think that their customers would embrace a character like this just beggars belief.

In fairness, it did get the entire internet talking about the brand which I suppose is marketing 101, just not in the way that they’d hoped. If I was a Bud Light drinker I don’t know that I’d personally be so outraged that I’d boycott the brand, but I probably wouldn’t opt for a can with Dylan Mulvaney’s face on it. Marketing beer really shouldn’t be this complicated, should it?
