I’ve never heard of the ‘Anorak Of The Year Award’ – is a new thing? – but I think that they’ve found a worthy winner for 2022 in the form of 52 year old Dave Clark, who willing travels hundreds of miles to check out the best rubbish bins in the country.

Dave first visited a rubbish dump with his father at the age of seven and has been infatuated with bins ever since, photographing them and rating them based on their location, size and design. He was presented with his award by the Dull Men’s Club, a 10,000 strong internet community that includes all manner of losers like a guy obsessed with collecting milk bottles and another one who loves brown tourist signs. It’s nice that they have somewhere to talk about these things.

Here’s what Dave said about his award:

I was very honoured to receive the award, with the Dull Men’s Club celebrating the ordinary things in life.

It’s important for everyone to take a step back and look at the world around you.

I’m after the totally unique ones. If it’s unusual then I’ll take a picture.

If you see a fun bin it makes you smile as you walk past.

The perfect outdoor bin has a big opening and is medium size – you don’t want it massive.

It needs to be nice and colourful with a wacky design.

I’m looking for something that stands out. Nice and bright colours.

But at the end of the day you can’t beat a classic council bin.

Well, if there was ever any doubt as to whether Dave was a worthy winner of this award, then I think his acceptance speech has more than confirmed it. Whatever makes you happy I guess. Can’t wait to report on this award and the inane people that win in for the next few years because it looks like it’s going to be a recurring form of entertainment for us. The internet never ceases to surprise me.
