Culture

Is the culture show for Con or for Pro?

Pro:

This may well be one of the strongest arguments in its favour, or at the very least it’s one of the favourites of the old guard. Royalty, a royal family, kings, queens, princes, princesses, knights, dames, lords and ladies, it’s all very British, it’s our tradition and it is inherent in our culture. It’s a long and rich heritage we have in our royalty, that sees Britain as a mark of the old guard, showing where we came from and how we once ruled the world. It’s an integral part of how the rest of the world views us, and it displays our stature and culture like nothing else, and that brings in the tourist pennies.

Con:

Tradition maybe, but cultures can evolve and we’ve had, and still have, a lot more to offer to the world than the result of centuries of inbreeding, that can be summed up in a few simple words that speak untold amounts; science, literature, music, art, history, all of it — we basically invented everything. Sure, an elected head of state might not have that rich history of cultural impact that a monarchy has had, but we’ve plenty more to offer besides it and always have done. Our culture does not begin and end with kings and queens, our history had it but our future doesn’t necessarily need it.
