It’s well known that some of the ways in which they treat animals over in China (although this isn’t a problem exclusive to that country) is beyond barbaric, but this is really driven home when you actually have to witness live recorded footage of it.

The video below comes from a circus in Hebei province, where a white horse is being brutally attacked by both a lion and a time in tandem. The horse tries desperately to escape but the lion stubbornly holds onto its leg with its teeth and the tiger keeps coming back and slashing its back with its claws.

The zoo workers are trying to help the horse out by whipping the two attacking animals but even though they do manage to get them under control eventually, that only really makes watching the whole video even more upsetting. Don’t watch this if you love animals and don’t want to see them in distress because it’s pretty harrowing stuff:

Told you it was pretty heartbreaking stuff. Hopefully the emergence of videos like this will finally cause some kind of clampdown on the way animals are treated over there in China, but I feel like this is going to be a long, ongoing process that is probably sadly going to take decades to sort out unfortunately.
