More and more celebrities seem to be using their positions of power and influence these days to educate people about LGBTQ+ issues and the latest one of these is Demi Lovato, who has announced that she is non binary as of this morning, May 19th.

Here’s the announcement she made via Twitter:
Not only has my life been a journey for myself, I was also living for those on the other side of the cameras.

This has come after a lot of healing & self-reflective work. I’m still learning & coming into myself, & I don’t claim to be an expert or a spokesperson. Sharing this with you now opens another level of vulnerability for me.

I’m doing this for those out there that haven’t been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones. Please keep living in your truths & know I am sending so much love your way xox

Good for her. Their announcement has been met with mostly positive reaction on line, with the post racking up thousands of likes and generally supportive comments:
For real it’s really cool seeing Demi Lovato come out as nonbinary, them and Sam Smith being out and loud and queer would have meant so much to me when I was figuring out gender stuff and will mean so much to queer kids and it makes me so happy to see

As a step-parent of a trans kid, I appreciate you sharing this, and I recognize how hard this is. Please know I’m so proud, and thank you for making it easier for our kids to just be themselves ❤️❤️❤️

I’m sure some people have a problem with their announcement because they don’t believe in all this hippy bullshit or whatever, but thankfully all that hate speech seems to have been shoved to the bottom of the pile. Hopefully announcements like Demi’s and Sam Smith’s will actually help a hell of a lot of young people deal with their gender identities in a way that wasn’t readily available for many people in the past. It can only be a good thing.
For more of the same, check out this non binary Londoner who wanted surgery to become a ‘genderless monster’. Ok then.
