I’m fairly certain that if you start a band in a pretty inaccessible genre of music like death metal then you’re mainly doing it for your love of the game rather than dreams of touring the world, making loads of money and scoring loads of hot babes, so that makes this post from somewhat famous death metal band Virus even more funny.

I’ll be honest and say that I don’t know much about niche death/thrash metal bands and have never heard of Virus before this, but it doesn’t seem like I’m the only one after their recent post moaning about how unfair the music industry is has gone massively viral on Facebook over the last 24 hours. Not because anyone is sympathising with what they say, but because everyone thinks they come across as entitled lamewads.
In the post, the band decries the lack of opportunities they’ve had since getting back together, shits on loads of other bands in their genre and threatens to split up forever unless a record label/manager/PR comes in to help them. Take a look at it below:
What a load of crybabies. Anyway, because of the privileged nature of that post and the fact that most people involved with the music industry kinda recognise that it’s a massive graft and you don’t get everything handed to you on a plate like these guys seem to want, it went massively viral on Facebook, with most people calling them out for being massive losers. Fair enough really.
Here are a selection of the best comments:
Lol. As a result of this though, the situation has developed massively with two major talking points coming to the forefront. Firstly, it came to light if you scrolled down their page that the wife of one of the members of the band recently died, so maybe you can excuse their behaviour in this post as it seems like they’re going through a bit of a hard time right now. Maybe you can excuse that? Not sure. That’s not as important but thoughts with those affected.
Secondly – and this is such a plot twist – the band actually edited the post and said that they only wrote it in the first place with the intent of going viral! They’re now sort of apologising and plugging their new single and saying how stoked they are to be playing the Heathen show.
Get a load of this:
Lol. I don’t believe that for a second – do you? Seems very clear that the guy (Coke Finlay anyone?) wrote an exasperated status about the music industry and then decided to backtrack on it when it all went viral and everyone started hating on him in a desperate bid to save his band’s career.
I don’t think that’s going to work at all though. There’s no way that someone would write a post like that to get attention. I know the phrase that there’s no such thing as bad publicity but come on now, even with an apology and a ‘this was our intention’ all along, this isn’t going to come across well for the guys in Virus. Come on now guys.
At least people will have heard of the band now though. Really is a case of be careful what you wish for – it might just happen in the worst possible way.
For more of the same, check out when this weirdo metal musician toured the UK playing massive venues to a crowd of nobody. Really was a
