Wish you could give up smoking just by hearing a chant? Turns out you (kind of) can.
In Indian there are communal lighters installed at the front of shops on pretty much every busy street, so when you don’t have a lighter you can just use one of these lighter box type devices to spark up your cig.
An anti-smoking group thought they’d test out a crazy concept behind stopping people from smoking by adjusting these communal lighters…
They installed a speaker on one of these communal lighter which played a well known death chant every time someone lit the lighter. The death chant was “Raam Naam Satya Hai”, which is chanted when a dead body is carried to the funeral in India, it’s a massive hit and everyone knows it.
The anti-smoking group’s logic behind this was that if someone was to hear this famous death chant they would be put off the idea of smoking. Check the video below of some Indian dudes gettin’ freaked the fvck out.
