Very unfortunate scenes at a funeral in Philadelphia this week as mourners were laying local man Benjamin Aviles to rest at the Greenmount Cemetery.
As pallbearers, including Benjamin’s immediately family, carried his coffin into the grave, the platform collapsed and the entire family ended up falling into the grave with him:
NEW: Deceased man’s son gets trapped under his father’s casket after a platform collapsed, taking the entire family into the grave.
That’s unfortunate.

Awful stuff. Apparently multiple pallbearers suffered injuries to their arms, legs and backs, but worst of all, Aviles’ son ended up trapped with his face in the mud and his father’s casket on top of him. Aviles’ stepdaughter Maribelle Rodriguez told ABC6:
‘The casket lay on top of him, and he was out like a light with his face in the mud.
The whole [platform] was trembling. It was wobbly, the wood was all wet and soaked.
‘I think they should apologise. There should be some reimbursement, being that the ceremony was interrupted; nothing was done properly.’
Well yeah, you’d think the family would have received an apology already, but it’s not a bad shout to suggest that the people at Greenmount Cemetery should be coffin up some cash for the incident too. I mean, just imagine your family already being at their lowest after losing their #1 patriarch, and then something like this happens to make it even worse. Absolute nightmare scenario.
A good argument for cremation, I suppose…
