Employee: George Entwistle
Job: BBC Director-General
Pressure rating: 9/10
George described himself as the “right person for the job” after being appointed replacement for BBC head-honcho Mark Thompson in September 2012. His self-proclaimed competence at taking on the biggest responsibility in television inevitably came back to bite him on the arse as he was forced to resign less than two months after taking charge.
Just weeks into his short-lived tenure, the BBC got caught up in the minor inconvenience that was the Jimmy Saville sex abuse scandal. Despite more evidence against the cigar chomping perv than in Lance Armstrong’s medicine cabinet, Entwistle opted not to broadcast a Newsnight investigation into the allegations. He followed this by giving the go-ahead to a report incorrectly linking Lord McAlpipe with a separate sex controversy.
Michael Buerk described him as: “The most disastrous Director-General in the Corporation’s history.”
Moyes-factor: Apparently Rooney’s granny-banging days are long behind him, so unless Giggs has another affair it seems there’ll be no revelations to befall Moyes in his early days as Utd chief. He’s already outdone Entwistle’s two months, so fair play.
