Dave Chappelle is under fire for apparently telling a transphobic and possibly homophobic joke in his first show back since being attacked the other week.

It was actually John Mulaney’s stand-up show, but he surprised the audience by letting Chappelle open for him, and this was the reaction…

So far none of these Tweets mention what the actual joke was, but you would think it was something brutally offensive and uncalled for. Well, at least one account was kind of enough to let us know what it was Dave Chappelle actually said, and it was in reference to the guy who attacked him on stage with a knife a few weeks back…

Oh… is that it? Remember – Chappelle’s attacker had a fake gun with an ejecting knife on it, hence “a gun that identifies as a knife”, which might actually be one of the tamest jokes Dave Chappelle has ever said. The homophobic joke was telling two people (who were reportedly hecklers) that they looked gay, which he then said there’s nothing wrong with.

That’s it. That was the offensive material.

Will be interesting to see how John Mulaney responds to the backlash, because I think it’s obvious Chappelle couldn’t care less and is going to keep joking about whatever he wants. One thing’s for sure; comedy shows are not for people who take things too seriously and who have an issue with equal-opportunity p*ss-taking. Is there anyone Chappelle hasn’t made fun out of?
