Dave Chappelle is under fire for apparently telling a transphobic and possibly homophobic joke in his first show back since being attacked the other week.
It was actually John Mulaney’s stand-up show, but he surprised the audience by letting Chappelle open for him, and this was the reaction…
John Mulaney is a piece of shit for not giving a single fuck about the many trans members of his audience that had to sit through Chapelle’s unnecessary transphobic tirades that he calls jokes. Can trans people fucking breathe? 💙 to everyone that felt unsafe and laughed at

y’all ever hear ~12,000 people laugh at a transphobic joke, while you’re a trans person in the audience who didn’t know the transphobic comedian would make a surprise appearance at the John Mulaney show? yeah. wasn’t fun. fuck you D.C.

okay so tell me why I just went to the John Mulaney show and Dave Chappelle was a surprise opener and made not only a transphobic joke but a homophobic one

honestly didn’t (and still don’t) care that much about john mulaney’s relationship history, but WOW do i care about him platforming transphobes and siccing them on the queers in his audience with absolutely no warning. wow do i care a whole hell of a lot.

So far none of these Tweets mention what the actual joke was, but you would think it was something brutally offensive and uncalled for. Well, at least one account was kind of enough to let us know what it was Dave Chappelle actually said, and it was in reference to the guy who attacked him on stage with a knife a few weeks back…
“I mean, it wasn’t a gun, it was a knife! A gun that identifies as a knife?”
He then paused, smiled a bit, and moved on quickly.– The homophobic joke was him saying “maybe you two are gay, I don’t know, nothing wrong with that if that’s the case.”

Oh… is that it? Remember – Chappelle’s attacker had a fake gun with an ejecting knife on it, hence “a gun that identifies as a knife”, which might actually be one of the tamest jokes Dave Chappelle has ever said. The homophobic joke was telling two people (who were reportedly hecklers) that they looked gay, which he then said there’s nothing wrong with.
That’s it. That was the offensive material.
Will be interesting to see how John Mulaney responds to the backlash, because I think it’s obvious Chappelle couldn’t care less and is going to keep joking about whatever he wants. One thing’s for sure; comedy shows are not for people who take things too seriously and who have an issue with equal-opportunity p*ss-taking. Is there anyone Chappelle hasn’t made fun out of?
