Ex-WWE and Marvel legend Dave Bautista used to be good buddies with boxer Manny Pacquiao, and had so much respect for his fellow Filipino that he even got his logo tattooed on his arm. That was before he knew about homophobic comments that Pacquiao had made to the press, however, as he explained to GQ while providing a rundown of his tattoos and cover-up jobs:

“It used to be a team logo. I was part of a team of a person I considered a friend and someone I really looked up to. And then, he later came out publicly with some anti-gay statements and turned out to be an extreme homophobe.
So, I had a huge issue with it. It’s a personal issue with me, my mom’s a lesbian. And I just could no longer call him a friend. So, I had it covered up with this.”
The logo was replaced with a portrait of a woman, which I guess is quite fitting. So what was it that Pacquiao said about gay people that was so awful? According to People, back in 2016, the boxer compared them to animals:
“The animals are better. They know how to distinguish male from female. If we approve [of] male on male, female on female, then man is worse than animals. It’s common sense.”
Pacquiao did later express regret for the comparison, although he did maintain that he was still anti-gay:
“This does not change my position against same-sex marriage. That’s what I believe. My only mistake is comparing gay people to animals.”
Fair play to Bautista for standing by his principles and defending his mum’s honour – he always seemed like a really solid dude. Must have been pretty gutting to get a tattoo commemorating his good friend and idol, only to see he holds views that are completely backwards and incompatible with his own. What a guy. Must remember to check him out in Glass Onion on Netflix, which he’s apparently really good in.
Shame he’s a bit of a hater when it comes to The Rock though.
