Tunnel Terror
In Virginia, 2004 Paul and Charles were part of a team fixing the electrics in the Hampton Road’s Bridge-Tunnel. The vehicle they were using had a shelf on the back where they kept the tools. The other important factor you need to know is that the eastbound section of the tunnel is three feet higher than the westbound tube. If you’re sitting in the cab whilst you drive back to base that’s not an issue…
However, if you’re sitting on the tool ledge at the back of the vehicle and facing backwards that will be an issue. As they turned into the westbound section Paul was knocked off the truck and died from massive head injuries right there and then. Charles was a little luckier as he was sat lower down and escaped with minor injuries.
So we got a Darwin Award nominee and an at-risk survivor. Ace!
