Daniel Kaluuya’s character in ‘Get Out’ is set to be memorialised with a statue in Central London’s Leicester Square, joining statues of Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, Mr. Bean, and more in the tourist hotspot.

Kaluuya shared the news on his Instagram the other day, with an image of the shot from the film that will be rendered immoral; where he’s falling backwards in slow motion into the Sunken Place:

“Soooo wanted to tell you guys, I’m getting a statue in Leicester Square, Central London, the same place I used to eat my meal deal prawn cocktail crisps, in between auditions.”

I’ll be real, this is beyond imagining, ‘Chris’ in Get Out will be memorialized on the trail alongside characters like Batman, Harry Potter and Mary Poppins and the most special thing about all of this is that it’s been chosen by the people. I want to say thank you all for taking the time to vote for me. I really tell stories for you guys; whether you’re in a bouji cinema, snuck into a 2nd screening or just wanna watch something Friday eve after work, I really make things with you in mind. So to have this by you, means a lot to me.”

Kaluuya’s character, Chris Washington, was chosen via a poll of 5,000 British film fans and won 20 percent of the vote. Clearly Kaluuya is as surprised as everyone else is about this news, but fair play to the guy because he’s one of the finest actors the UK has ever produced and smashes every role he’s in. It’s also good to have another statue of a British actor immortalised in Leicester Square, seeing as about half of them are American actors or creations (Bugs Bunny, Wonder Woman, Gene Kelly, Batman, Laurel & Hardy).

I like how they’ve gone for the shot of him falling into the Sunken Place too, rather than the (also) iconic shot of him with tears running down his cheeks. It should make for a pretty cool statue both in and out of context, but we’ll see for sure when it’s completed and unveiled later this month. Congratulations, Daniel Kaluuya!

Even if some people might say he’s a bit of a pr1ck in real life…
