Dana White Says He’s Been “Begging” Mike Tyson Not To Fight Following Comeback Announcement

53-year-old Mike Tyson has shared several videos on social media recently showing him hitting pads with ferocious speed and power, with the latest ending with Tyson staring down the camera and proclaiming “I’m back.”

Well it looks like one person who doesn’t want to see Mike Tyson return to the ring is UFC President Dana White, who like others is not only concerned about Tyson preserving his legacy but also about his wellbeing.

As per TalkSport, Dana White told Tim and Sid podcast:

I love Mike Tyson, I’m begging him not to go fight. I said “you look awesome, you’re still explosive, you’re obviously still powerful, you’re one of the all-time greats.

But Mike, you’re 53, please don’t do it, please. Bottom line is I don’t want Mike to fight. If it comes down to where he is about to do something crazy, I might have to jump in and figure out something for him not to do it.

Tyson hasn’t competed in the ring since losing to Ireland’s Danny McBride in 2005 in what was his third loss in his final four fights:

So clearly his boxing skills were already deteriorating by the time he decided to hang up his gloves. If he couldn’t hang with his peers 15 years ago, then it’s unlikely he’ll be able to do it now in his 50s, no matter how hard he trains.

Apparently the idea is for him to do at least one charity fight, possibly against old nemesis Evander Holyfield, but it seems Dana doesn’t like the sound of a Tyson comeback no matter what the circumstances. Well to be fair, I’m sure he’d change his tune if the UFC could somehow get a slice of the pie. Either way, whether you think it’s a good idea or not, I’m sure everyone and their mothers will be tuning it to see the increasingly inevitable Mike Tyson comeback fight whenever it happens. Can’t wait.
