I haven’t been excited for a multiplayer online game in forever – mainly because I haven’t had any reason to even delve into that world – but I always hoped that there might be something to reel me back in.

That something just might be The Culling as it looks like the most fun ever. It basically gets 16 gamers from around the world, drops them on a tropical island and then gives them 20 minutes to kill each other. That’s it – it’s basically Battle Royale with sick weapons and no kids.  There’s no second place and one gamer will be crowned winner when he’s left as the last man standing.

Michael McMain, Founder and CEO of Xaviant, explained how it came about:

I asked a small, talented team to come up with their dream game and gave them the autonomy to build it. The Culling is the result of that effort. It has been the highlight of my career!

As you can see, it isn’t all mindless bloodshed as you’re encouraged to build traps and scavenge materials and do loads of other stuff basically. There is a fair dose of mindless violence though which is definitely a good thing.

Unfortunately it’s only going to be available on Steam, which is a bit of a blow for everyone who doesn’t use their PC for gaming, but hopefully it’ll be so well received that there will be no choice but to bring it out on PS4 and Xbox. Here’s hoping – in the meantime check out some of these awesome looking games in order to keep you going.
