“Why have you followed me into my hotel room?”

You might’ve seen this clip on Dispatches last night. Reporter Ellie Flynn went undercover on the streets of Liverpool to see how quickly someone would sexually harass/attempt to take advantage of her if she seemed drunk and alone. Turns out it didn’t take very long at all, and soon enough this guy had followed her into her hotel room absolutely certain that he had secured a shag. Point proven?
Now obviously Ellie is a journalist who went out looking for ‘content’ to fit the brief, and would’ve been happy to stay out all night, and the next night, until someone made a move. Thus a lot of people are saying this isn’t quite a realistic representation of what goes on, but I think anyone who’s been out in any major city especially has seen this sort of thing play out regularly. There’s dangerous, opportunistic creeps out and about every night; no doubt about it. The good news is that there’s also plenty of men out there who would stop this happening if they saw it. Well, maybe not in Ellie’s case this time, but you’d like to think they’re alert to it. Hopefully with this clip doing the rounds more of us will be.
