I’m fairly sure that ‘Dark’ was one of Netflix’s most successful series at one point – even more so because it was filmed in German, although ‘Squid Game’ has shown us that language doesn’t matter so much these days – so it’s hardly surprising that the powers that be gave its creators a shot at developing a show in English.

‘1899’ is that show and it looks like it’s going to be essential viewing yet again if the trailer is anything to go by. It’s not really giving too much away, other than that there are a hell of a lot of people in it and it revolves around a migrant steamship crossing the Atlantic to New York in 1899 that comes in contact with another ship that went missing four months previous – and something is definitely not right with it.
Take a look at the trailer below:

On their journey across the vast and treacherous Atlantic Ocean, the passengers of the Kerberos encounter the biggest mystery of their lives. Welcome to 1899, a deeply immersive new series from the creators of Dark.
Yeah I haven’t even really got a clue who the main character is supposed to be from that trailer. Or maybe the main character is supposed to be those weird triangle artefacts/tattoos/things that are floating about? Who knows?
Anyway, it’s kinda cool actors are speaking in the languages that their characters actually speak and the whole production looks very accomplished and spooky and terrifying. Will definitely be checking it out on November 17th, even if I won’t really have a clue what I’m getting into.
For more of the same, check out ten movies on Netflix that are so scary people can’t watch all of them. Just in time for Halloween.
