I’ve been seeing a lot about his Coronavirus in the last couple of days, so figured it was finally time to start doing a post about it and figure out what it’s all about and how it might affect us all.

Surprisingly, it’s not a beer related disease out of Mexico, but instead a virus that has originated over in China with similar characteristics to SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) which killed 650 people back in 2002-2003. The death toll for Coronavirus isn’t quite that high yet at nine, but 440 more people are suffering and there are worries about the disease mutating and adapting.

It’s thought that the Coronavirus originated at he Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in Wuhan city. Gao Fu, the director of the Chinese centre for disease control and prevention, explained the following:

We already know that the disease originated from a market which conducted illegal transaction of wild animals.

This might be the cause, so the disease could be on an animal, and then passed on from this animal to a human.

It’s clear that this virus is adapting and mutating.

That doesn’t sound good does it? The World Health Organisation is looking into the spread of the virus and the US and UK are both on alert to observe passengers travelling from China to try and ensure that it doesn’t end up in their countries.

The same can’t be said for Australia though as a man was recently quarantined in Brisbane after displaying symptoms associated with the virus. No news on if it was actually Coronavirus, but hopefully the Australians can get that locked down before anyone else is affected. If you’ve been to Wuhan recently maybe get yourself checked out as well. Just saying.
