The Conor McGregor retirement/UFC 200 saga has only been going on for a few days now but it already seems like they’ve managed to come to a conclusion. The most unsurprising news ever was seemingly confirmed by McGregor in the following tweet which he posted earlier today:
Happy to announce that I am BACK on UFC 200!
Shout out to @danawhite and @lorenzofertitta on getting this one done for the fans. #Respect— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) April 25, 2016
Yeah, I mean that is a bit of an anti-climax, but I suppose there wasn’t really any other solution to this problem was there? Even so, Dana White hasn’t confirmed the news and sent a text message to the Los Angeles Times saying the following:
It’s not true. We haven’t talked [to] Conor or his manager since the press conference. I don’t know why he would tweet that.
Hmmm. That’s a bit weird but it seems as though this is going to be confirmed sooner rather than later. I mean Nate Diaz even said he was refusing to fight anyone else so they’re kinda fucked really unless they just sort it out now. And the promo of all of this has generated way more interest than a few poxy little press conferences. When it does eventually get signed, Conor McGregor will get exactly what he wanted – it would be completely stupid from a financial standpoint for Dana White to pull him off the show because he guarantees money, no doubt about it. Fair play to the guy for playing hardball and doing what he wants.
