We’ve known for a couple weeks now that the Conor McGregor comeback fight Vs Michael Chandler at UFC 303 was in jeopardy, and now our worst fears have unfortunately come true with Dana White confirming that McGregor is injured and will be unable to compete on June 30.
The UFC have been scrambling to save the card all week, and although nothing could ever replace the McGregor comeback fight, they’ve done a pretty good job on short notice by booking THREE new fights on the card. The first one (and the new main event) – Jiri Prochazka Vs Alex Pereira 2:
The new co-main event will see Brian Ortega take on Diego Lopes…
And finally, Carlos Ulberg Vs Anthony Smith:
A lot of UFC fans were looking forward to Michael ‘Venom’ Page beating up Ian ‘Machado’ Garry at UFC 303, and thankfully that fight is still on the card…
As for Conor McGregor, the injury doesn’t seem too bad (whatever it is) because they’re reportedly looking to rebook the fight for later this year, but I guess we’ll have to take it a day at a time and see how it goes. Nothing would be more embarrassing than having the fight rebooked and then McGregor pulling out again for whatever reason.
You do have to feel bad for Michael Chandler, though. Chandler has been waiting for a fight against McGregor since being tapped out by Dustin Poirier over 18 months ago! What better way to reintroduce yourself than by ruining Conor McGregor’s comeback party? Guess he’ll have to wait a little longer for the opportunity.
