It was pretty weird last week when footage emerged of Conor McGregor punching an old man in the face for refusing to try his new whiskey and a lot of questions were asked about it – mainly how could a professional fighter get so butthurt that he literally punched an old man in the face for minding his own business – but it seems like we might have some answers now as Conor has finally decided to give us his take on events.

In what can only be seen as a complete and utter change in regular programming, Conor has actually manned up for once and apologised for his behaviour. Here’s what he had to say:
I was in the wrong. That man deserved to enjoy his time in the pub without having it end the way it did.
It was five months ago and I tried to make amends and I made amends back then. But that doesn’t matter, I was in the wrong and I must take accountability, take responsibility.
I owe that to the people that have supported me. I owe it to my mother, my father, my family. I owe it to the people that trained me in martial arts. That’s not who I am.
That is not the reason I got into martial arts or studying combat sports. The reason I got into it was to defend against that type of scenario.
I have been making steps and continuing to make steps to do better and be better, to see it (the footage) is like a dagger into my heart as a young martial artist.
I must get my head screwed on and just get back in the game and fight for redemption, retribution, respect – the things that made me the man I am.
And that’s what I will do.
I mean as far as apologies go that’s a pretty good one. He owned up to his behaviour being completely shitty and said that he was trying to be a better person – I can respect that. Although it he really does have to actually show everyone that he’s being a better person if he wants to change it around. Anyone can say they want to change, it’s actually doing it that’s the hard part.
For more of the same, here’s Conor McGregor’s first ever fight. That’s what he got into marital arts for.
