Meet conjoined twins Lupita and Carmen Andrade – two sisters fused at the torso who are on a mission to normalise their condition by opening up about their lives on social media.
The twins, 22, who were born in Mexico and came to the United States as babies, gave an interview to Today where they explained that they have one vagina, two arms each, but only one leg. However that hasn’t stopped Carmen bagging herself a boyfriend, who thankfully Lupita approves of (not like she has much choice, to be fair).
Carmen explains:
I met my boyfriend, Daniel, on Hinge in October 2020. I never tried to hide the fact that I’m a conjoined twin, which meant I got a lot of messages from guys with fetishes. I knew right off the bat that Daniel was different from the others, because he didn’t lead with a question about my condition. I have social anxiety, and I’ve ended up canceling dates at the last minute, but I felt calm on the way there.
The couple have been together for two and a half years and are now discussing marriage, but Carmen wants to live together first to see how that goes. Which is probably a good idea. She adds:
Daniel and my sister get along really well. It’s funny because I stay up later than Lupita, but when Daniel’s sleeps over, I fall asleep quickly — and he stays up talking with her.
How about having kids? Not something they’re worrying about, apparently:
Both Daniel and I love kids, but we don’t want any of our own. I like being a dog mom. Lupita and I can’t get pregnant, we have endometriosis and we’re also on a hormone blocker that prevents us from menstruating.
Well it’s great to hear that Carmen, Lupita and Daniel are making this unique situation work out for themselves, but there’s still so many unanswered questions I hope we can get the answers to, possibly in a reality TV series that I’m sure they’ll be inundated with offers for soon enough.
For example, when Carmen comes home from a long day at work, does Daniel greet her with a hug only, or is it one big hug that involves Lupita as well? From what they share on social media, it seems Lupita is left out of the physical affection-side of things, which makes sense because she’s not the one dating Daniel, but does that make her feel like she’s third-wheeling at all? Not like anyone has a choice in the matter, but still. Also, what happens when Carmen and Daniel get into an argument or want to get intimate? Does Lupita close her eyes and put headphones on or what?
Whatever the case, it’s great to see these girls living their lives and being so open about it with the rest of us. Looks like they have loads of fun hanging out at Hooters, getting dressed up for Halloween, etc. Now all Dan The Man has to do is put a ring on it!
