It’s fair to say that Donald Trump has rubbed pretty much everyone up the wrong way since the beginning of his Presidency – and even way before that – but I don’t think anyone ever thought that anyone would actually call him out and do anything about it now because I mean he’s the President of the United States, what can they do?

Nevertheless, it seems like CNN are going to try and do something about it after news emerged yesterday that they were going to attempt to sue Trump over his actions involving their reporter Jim Acosta. You probably saw the clip last week where Trump continually berated Acosta during his line of questioning and then ordered him out of the press conference, before banning him from the White House under the guise of him assaulting a White House intern that tried to take the mic off him.
Anyway, he clearly didn’t and the footage is below if you want to check that out to confirm:
Yeah I mean that is so not assault it’s stupid, but I suppose it’s not really anything new in Donald Trump’s Presidency to completely fabricate events out of thin air. At least this one has some element of truth to it in that they vaguely touched each other, but you get the point that this is a complete and utter joke and CNN are running with that too, claiming that it breaches first amendment rights to free speech and fifth amendment rights to due process.
On Friday, they gave Trump an ultimatum threatening legal action if Acosta was not reinstated by Tuesday. Obviously that deadline has been and gone and now CNN has released the following statement:
CNN filed a lawsuit against the Trump Administration this morning in DC District Court.
It demands the return of the White House credentials of CNN’s Chief White House correspondent, Jim Acosta. The wrongful revocation of these credentials violates CNN and Acosta’s First Amendment rights of freedom of the press, and their Fifth Amendment rights to due process.
We have asked this court for an immediate restraining order requiring the pass be returned to Jim, and will seek permanent relief as part of this process.
I mean that’s pretty ballsy to even go for it and I expect it to get shut down pretty much instantly and nothing actually happen regarding it, but even so you’ve gotta give CNN props for standing up for what they believe in. Unfortunately though I imagine when it’s all said and done this won’t even be a footnote on Donald Trump’s Presidency.
