CLOUDS INTERVIEW

Scotland is the home to many great things, bagpipes, kilts, scotch, and, last but not leastai??i??Clouds.

Clouds – Calum MacLeod and Liam Roberton – are a DJ/production duo from Perth, and they create some pretty nifty tracks.

Iai??i??ve been following their progress for about 6 months or so now, but since beginning their quest to annihilate ear drums in early 2009, Clouds have found themselves the glyset shop. subjects of a incredible rise within blog and DJ circles.

After sending their tracks about, early last year, they signed up to release a canada pharmacy no prescription. series of EPs on Fake Bloods ai???Blood Musicai??? and Tigaai??i??s ai???Turboai??? label.

Their first release ai???Liquid/ Mauful Sirai??? was the debut on Fake Bloods ai???Blood Musicai??? label, receiving massive support from the big names all over plant vigra review. the techno/electro music scene. Such as Tiga, Erol Alkan, Proxy, Sinden and Boys Noize.

But anyway, yeah, I managed to get to get a short & sweet interview with them.

BS. – Right, Weai??i??ll start off with the usual question, how did this duo first come to be?

CLOUDS. – We met in high school and became good friends. We were both into the electronic music scene and both wanted to start producing music. It made sense to do it together.

BS. – So for anyone out there who will be reading this and thinking why the hell haven’t I heard of Clouds before, how would you describe your sound?

CLOUDS. – Quite energetic electro with strong techno influences.

BS. – As a duo, how do you two write? Is it more of a collaborative effort or more individual?

CLOUDS. – Right now we find it hard to sit down and produce a track together as we both use headphones and don’t really have any kind of studio space to work in.

BS. – Being the first release on Fake Blood’s ‘Blood Music’ label must have been a great feeling -Ai??how did you first come into contact with him and get involved with the label?

CLOUDS. – He got in touch with us through MySpace, which came as a bit of a shock. We sent him some tracks and things just continued from there.

BS. – What would you say is your favourite part of your musical creations? The instruments used? The samples? The reception?

CLOUDS. – Ai??It’s always fun hearing tracks for the first time when we play them out, though It can be quite nerve racking not knowing how it’s going to sound on a proper sound system. I guess that’s part of the fun

BS. – What VSTs and hardware are giving you a chubby at the moment?

C. – We can’t afford any hardware at the moment but we’d really like a 707!

BS. – Youai??i??ve created quite a few remixes, for people like Coin Operated Boy, Proxy, Screendeath and Dem Slackers. How did you come to create some of these tracks and what deems a track remixable to you, and whatai??i??s your process for remixing?

CLOUDS. – We start remixes like we start any other track, then add some of their stupid stems and send it to them.

BS. – Who would you say is your favourite producer(s)? Why?

CLOUDS. – Zombie Nation, Mr. Oizo, ZZT, Proxy, Boys Noize, Tiga. They’re all kind of awesome.

BS. – Outside of bass music, which influences do you take and put into your work? Or just dig for some reason or another?

CLOUDS. – We don’t really draw on any influences from any music outside of the electronic scene. We tend to make tracks with the club in mind, if we think it will sound good in the club then we are happy.

BS. – What can we expect from Clouds in the future? Any remixes or originals we should be aware of?

CLOUDS. – Just some Turbo EPs and remixes.
