It seems a long long time ago when that psycho stormed a couple of mosques over in New Zealand and massacred a whole bunch of Muslims whilst live streaming the thing directly to Facebook, but he was finally sentenced today and the good news is that he’s going to be serving life in prison with no chance of parole.

29 year old Brenton Tarrant pleaded guilty to 51 charges of murder, 40 counts of attempted murder and one of engaging in a terrorist act laid under the Terrorism Suppression Act 2002 and was sentenced by Justice Cameron Mander. He stated that Tarrant should never be released from the maximum-security Auckland Prison in Paremoremo and said this during the sentencing:

Having given the matter much consideration, I am satisfied that no minimum period of imprisonment would be sufficient to satisfy the legitimate need to hold you to account for the harm you have done the community.

I have concluded there is no minimum term of imprisonment available to me that would not otherwise equate to a whole-of-life sentence.

I mean you can’t really argue with that can you? It might be the first time that such a sentence has ever been handed down in New Zealand’s history, but given the enormity of Tarrant’s crime I don’t think that there’s any other option for him, except maybe the electric chair. Fairly sure that New Zealand don’t practice the death penalty though.

Good to know this piece of shit is going to spend the rest of his life rotting behind bars though. RIP to everyone murdered in the shootings and thoughts with the families – hopefully this gives judgment gives them some respite although I sadly doubt it.
