Chris Pratt as Mario is a prime example of why you should hire voice actors for voice acting roles because what the hell is this pic.twitter.com/rOYmQqSXEv

With the way video game movies usually turn out, you might say the long-awaited Super Mario Movie has been doomed from the beginning. Even still I don’t think anything could you have prepared us for how awful Chris Pratt’s Mario voice is. I don’t know what accent that is but it’s not the fake accent of an Italian video game plumber. Literally the main thing you need to get right in a Super Mario movie is Mario’s voice! Here’s the general consensus on Twitter:

A lonely, damaged, hopeless nation braces itself to hear Chris Pratt’s Mario voice

On the other hand, if Chris Pratt actually went full Mario he’d probably get cancelled for butchering a stupid fake Italian accent. So this is probably the safest way to go about it. Besides that, the trailer itself looks… kinda sick? The visuals are on point and Jack Black voicing Bowser just seems perfect. I wouldn’t mind watching it at all when it finally drops in April 2023.
Next time though, maybe they could hire Charles Martinet – the actual voice behind the original Mario games. He’s still around! Watch below:
