Remember that couple of weeks last year when all anyone could talk about was ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ and all the weird and controversial things that were going on with it, then the movie came out and sucked and nobody has ever really spoken about it ever again?

Well, Chris Pine is rolling it back today by finally explaining what really happened when it looked as if Harry Styles had spat on him when he came to sit down next to him during the premiere of the movie at the Venice Film Festival. Speaking to Esquire, Pine finally ‘revealed the truth’ about what happened, six months after the event:

My publicist woke me up in a state and said I needed to craft a message about what had happened.

I watched the video, it does indeed look like he’s spitting on me. He didn’t spit on me.

It was a ridiculous story and a complete fabrication, created by an odd online illusion that allows for foolish speculation.

If there was drama, there was drama.

I absolutely didn’t know about it, nor really would I have cared.

If I feel badly, it’s because the vitriol that the movie got was absolutely out of proportion with what was onscreen.

Venice was normal things getting swept up in a narrative that people wanted to make, compounded by the metastasizing that can happen in the Twittersphere.

It was ridiculous.

Yeah I’m not really sure if he’s actually explaining ‘what really happened there’ – it’s more that he’s just saying that nothing did happen in the slightest and making that abundantly clear. I suppose it’s good that he’s talking about it and clearing up that NOTHING REALLY HAPPENED because you know, speculation can really get out of hand. Glad that’s all sorted now.

Hopefully this means we never have to talk about ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ ever again. because you know, there was no actual drama during the filming process and the end result wasn’t very good anyway. Banished to the annals of history.
