The feet are unwrapped a few times a week to wash them, clip the nails and remove dead tissue. Each time they re-wrap the feet the bandages are tightened. The toe nails would often start growing inwards and get infected so would need to be completely removed.

Blood circulation is limited thanks to the bandages so any injuries to the foot would often end in tissue dying. If this dead (necrotic) tissue spread to the bones they turned soft and toes sometimes actually drop off. This was seen as a bonus because it shrunk the foot even further.

Girls with fleshy toes would sometimes have shards of glass or broken tiles inserted under the bandages to purposefully cause injury in the hope that they would become infected and some tissue would die and fall off. Dark as fuck.
