Two unlucky bank tellers in Wenzhou, China have caught genital warts after handling dirty money in the bank.
Gynaecologists theorised that they probably caught the STD after going to the toilet without washing their hands after touching the contaminated notes. Major bummer.
One teller said that she was a virgin and the other said that he had only had sex with his 30 year old fiancee – who tested negative for the disease – so unless the pair of them are lying (not at all likely when someone has mysteriously contracted an STD right?) then this seems like the only possible explanation.
Although most STDs can’t be caught from skin to skin contact, genital warts are an exception, so it is possible that this could have been the way that the pair were infected:

Genital warts are spread by skin-to-skin contact – usually during vaginal, anal, or oral sex play. There is a chance genital warts can be spread even when no warts are visible. Treatment seems to lower the chance of passing the infection to a sex partner.
Even these condoms that change colour when they come into contact with an STD would have been useless in this situation. However, it all still sounds a little far fetched to me – like when has anyone heard of anyone catching an STD off some money? Never, that’s when. I think the pair of them are hiding something from us.
In the meantime though, the story serves as a reminder to us all to always wash our hands before going to the toilet. And if you’re ever in Wenzhou then maybe just wear gloves all the time wherever you go.
