Rufio Hook Then And Now

Dante Basco played Rufio – the leader of The Lost Boys – and was probably the most loved character in the movie. I should probably post a spoiler alert here but surely everyone reading this has actually seen Hook, and even if you haven’t you aren’t going to be really pissed off by a spoiler, are you? Given the people that visit this site and comment on the reg you probably are actually, so here it is: SPOILER ALERT.

Everybody absolutely hates it when Hook kills Rufio. Pretty much everyone was in tears in the cinema when I saw it, I remember that much at least. What a guy. It’s a shame that he never really went on to do anything else after Hook, with the highlight of his career following it probably being a recurring role in Moesha, although that is closely followed by guest appearances in Fresh Prince Of Bel Air AND Hangin’ With Mr Cooper.

Basco’s main talents aren’t acting though – at least not in the traditional sense – as he’s both an accomplished voice actor and breakdancing. I’m not really into Nickelodeon cartoons anymore, but apparently Basco voiced a character called Zuko on some show called Avatar: The Last Airbender that was a pretty big deal. On the breakdancing side of things he appeared opposite Antonio Banderas (what the hell ever happened to HIM while we’re at it?) in a movie called Take The Lead in 2006, as well as appearing in a Sprite advert where he raps and break dances.

I can’t actually find the advert online which is a major bummer, but for some reason Dante uploaded a video of himself rapping the ‘poem’ (as he refers to it) that he used in the ad on the streets of Melbourne a couple of days ago. Lucky or what? You can check that out below, but I’ve got no idea how it’s appropriate for a Sprite advert.
