As part of Mother’s Day in the United States last Sunday, Calvin Klein launched a brand new viral campaign starring Robert Bete – a transgender man who still retains his female reproductive system, hence how he managed to get pregnant.
I’m not going get into whether this is progressive or ludicrous or both, but as you might imagine there’s all sort of debate (to put it lightly) happening on social media. Some people think it’s an insult to women, particularly to run an ad like this on Mother’s Day, and others, like Robert himself, see it as “spotlighting the realities of new families”…
No word on who the father is – at this rate it could even be the babe posing with Roberte in the photos…
Well, maybe the idea that both men and women can get pregnant is just something we’re going to have to get used to. Of course we all know that only those who were born women, like Roberte, can get pregnant. I’m sure I read recently though that scientists are working on a way to give trans women womb implants so they can get pregnant for real also. Is that really scientifically possible or just a disaster waiting to happen? I guess we’re going to find out.
