No, I just had the balls to stand up for women and girls in sports. https://t.co/FEl2Hav5z6

Last week, transgender swimmer Lia Thomas came 1st in the 500-yard freestyle at the NCAA women’s swimming and diving championships, triggering all kinds of discussion over whether a transgender woman (with the advantages of a being a biological male) should be allowed to compete against women in elite level sports. After all, Lia was ranked #462 when she competed as a man (William Thomas) last year, and now ranks #1 as female:
Many people are saying this isn’t quite fair on the other female participants, some of whom are pictured together below (2nd, 3rd and 4th) while Lia celebrates the top spot:
Now if there’s anyone on the planet qualified enough to talk about transgenderism in sport, it’s former Olympic champion Caitlyn Jenner. Jenner told MailOnline:
I don’t think biological boys should compete in women’s sports – we have to protect women’s sports… that’s the bottom line.
I don’t see how you can be happy beating other girls under these circumstances. You have to have a sense of personal responsibility. You can still enjoy sports but not play at a competitive level, right?
After her comments were published, all hell broke loose:
You should be using your privilege to help the community, not undermine it.

Sometimes I get confused on how Caitlyn Jenner, a trans woman, can be transphobic but then I remember that she’s rich & white

Yet:
1- You received a Woman of the year award.
2- You played in the woman’s golfing tournament in 2016. pic.twitter.com/WyVGXOCuXe— Eddy Bee 🏳️🌈 (@CrazyEddyBee) March 18, 2022
I support all trans. Except you. You can just go away and not come back.

I can’t believe how many people “supporting” you are using your dead name and misgendering you. Have you ever thought you might be on the wrong side, Caitlyn?

FWIW, Jenner denies ever competing in a women’s golf tournament:
You are the definition of fake news and have no integrity. I competed in a charity pro-am tournament hosted by the LPGA, the ANA, with men and women. With Danielle Kang, Austin Ernst, Ken Romaniszyn, Bart Kendall and George Van Scott. Do your research before you publish lies. https://t.co/Gjb3Wl4sqe

There’s no shortage of people sticking up for Jenner and respecting her thoughts on the subject too, but whichever side of the debate you’re on, it does seem a little insane to accuse Caitlyn Jenner of being transphobic or anti-trans. I mean how do you accuse a trans woman of being transphobic? Interesting times we live in indeed.
Anyway I’m not sure what the solution to all this is; maybe separate trans categories? XX and XY categories? I don’t know. What I do know is that women deserve to compete on a level playing field and have a fair chance to succeed in sport. If a person wants to identify as a gender that’s different from their biological sex, that’s their choice and no big deal. As far as sports are concerned, it only seems reasonable that we compete based on our biological sex and not our social identity.
Penn’s Lia Thomas won the 500-yard freestyle at the NCAA women’s swimming and diving championships.
Thomas becomes the first known transgender athlete to win an NCAA Division I championship in any sport.
