In case you’re unaware of this story currently blowing up in New York — here’s the gist of it before we get to the most recent developments.

A 39-year-old father and his 18-year-old daughter were walking through a Brooklyn playground at 9pm last Thursday when they were approached by a gang of five teenagers. The teenagers pointed a gun at the dad and ordered him to get lost before taking it in turns to rape his daughter. The dad ran off then returned to the scene with two police officers.
Denzel Murray, 14, Onandi Brown and Travis Beckford, both 17, Shaquell Cooper and Ethan Philip, both 15, all face rape and sexual abuse charges.
Now here’s where shit gets really twisted and confusing.
A lawyer for one of the teens is saying that he has seen video evidence that shows the girl “laughing and smiling” during what she later called the attack. Not only that — the arrested teens also say the father and daughter were having sex in the park when they first came across them.
Attorney Kenneth Montgomery, representing Denzel Murray, says the video evidence he’s seen shows “a young lady, on the floor, laughing and smiling.”
The demeanour of the victim matters. The grand jury should have an opportunity to view that video.
Obviously these new allegations have no bearing on the woman as an alleged victim, which the police have acknowledged:
(This) does not mean she was not a victim of a pretty horrific attack.
Describing the incident, the girl says that she and her dad were drinking beer together near the handball court at Osborn Playground in Brooklyn. She says the group of teens then approached them and ordered her dad to leave. He threw a bottle at them and then one of the boys chased him off with a gun.
The boys insist that the sex was consensual, and that the girl was having “some type of sexual contact with her father” when they encountered then.

Who knows what to believe at this point? Seems to me there’s either 5 or 6 people in this story who need to be castrated ASAP. Then again this lawyer’s thrown a right spanner in the works claiming there’s a video of the girl “laughing and smiling” throughout. That’s a bold allegation to make, but even if it’s true – does that necessarily mean it was consensual?
Definitely a fucked up and complex case – let’s hope the detectives get to the bottom of it.
