The details of Britney Spears’s conservatorship were already messed up enough as it is, but even now new information is coming out about the extent to which dad Jamie Spears was emotionally abusing and physically controlling his daughter during this period.
According to ET, a former FBI special agent has corroborated the claim that, under the direction of Mr. Spears, a security company was instructed “to place a secret recording device in Ms Spears’ bedroom.”
Britney’s lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, filed the legal documents this week in court, which say that Sherine Ebadi, a former FBI special agent and current associate managing director of a forensic intelligence firm at Kroll Associates, concluded that an employee at Black Box Security wiretapped the singer’s bedroom.
The Black Box employee, Alex Vlasov, first made the claim in The New York Times’ documentary Controlling Britney Spears, which was a follow-up to Framing Britney Spears. Vlasov was first employed by Jamie Spears to provide security for Britney during public appearances, and was eventually given the job full time to provide round-the-clock security. It was such a big score for Black Box that they ended up securing jobs with Miley Cyrus and the Kardashians as well.
Anyway, Vlasov felt so guilty about Britney’s situation that he eventually came out and detailed the abuse she’d suffered and provided all the evidence he had; this included copies of e-mails, texts and a USB drive with over 180 hours of recordings from Britney’s bedroom. Yikes.
He revealed that security cameras would be set up anytime Britney was on the road and staying in hotel rooms, and that her dad was basically keeping 24/7 tabs on her. Which sounds more like psychotic, jealous boyfriend behaviour than a concerned dad trying to look out for his 40-year-old daughter. Jamie would use the recordings/footage to confront Britney or manipulate her with what he knew.
But wait, it gets worse…
Mr. Vlasov said that Ms. Spears’s phone had been monitored using a clever tech setup: The iCloud account on her phone was mirrored on an iPad and later on an iPod. Mr. Yemini would have Mr. Vlasov encrypt Ms. Spears’s digital communications captured on the iPad and the iPod to send to Mr. Spears and Robin Greenhill, an employee of Tri Star Sports & Entertainment Group, the former business manager for the singer’s estate.
This arrangement allowed them to monitor all text messages, FaceTime calls, notes, browser history and photographs.
Pretty sure that’s all highly illegal and that Jamie Spears could be looking at prison time for this (which I think is what Britney is asking for). It’s just such an insane invasion of privacy. Think about anyone, let alone your dad, having access to all your texts and phone calls and CCTV in your hotel rooms. Legitimately the sort of thing that could cause anyone to have a breakdown. Not only that, he’d have been spying on anyone else that she came into contact with too via her texts/calls/meetings.
Lock this weirdo up and throw away the key IMO. And let’s hope Britney is well on the road to recovery, although maybe she could use a sensible buddy to advise her from time, given her recent Instagram exploits (NSFW).
